Can You Hear it....the sound of rain?

Rain changes things. Our pastures are singing with growth. We can breathe a sigh of relief because we have a reprieve from the drought.

We get to see how effective we have been(or not been) in our pasture management as the grasses have received an adequate amount of rain to start to recover.

Last week we were able to get a cover seed down in all our bare spots, God is so good! With the soft downfall of rain, no seed was washed out.

Today we moved the pigs that were supposed to be moved Monday but were delayed due to the rainfall. The paddock they came from was very disturbed. We moved them out then hand broadcasted seed down as they had already prepped the whole acre to receive the seed.

When we get rain like we experienced this week, we pause the moves and hay the chickens in place. That essentially becomes a deep bedding and once we move off, the ground will be left with a great carbon cover.

We are fully stocked on beef, chicken, turkey, and eggs. We plan to be restocked next week on all our pork sausages and bacon. We have a charcuterie pig at the local meat market. We are trying out some pancetta, more buckboard bacon, and a few other specialty cured meats.
